Foster- In- Texas

Honestly, I have to say that there is so much being done by an organization very close to my heart. They are moving boundaries in the way that Foster Care is changing! The Lutheran Social Services of the South has so many other life changing Residential Treatment Centers, Group Homes, and even a Refugee Placement for children who have crossed the border of Mexico! Now they add to it "Foster In Texas", a  non-profit organization which uses not only State Approved guidelines for finding foster parents, and facilitating the connections for parenting hurt children in care, they also use more criteria to make sure they are the BEST they can be!
I have to say that my prayers are with the people who make decisions to become a foster parent. My prayers are even stronger for those who choose who can be a foster parent. It SHOULD be more than just who can pass a background check, and who can have a place to live. It NEEDS to be SO MUCH MORE! I have people who ask me all the time, what does it take to be a Foster Parent? What are the gifts of being a Foster Parent? How do I become one? How could someone just let "those kinds of kids" in their home, especially if they have their own children? Is it safe? You wouldn't believe the questions I hear from random people, after I open up about being a foster child. I have decided to let you in on a little secret: The best gift you can get from being a foster parent, is knowing that for the rest of your foster child's life, you will be remembered for either making or breaking their idea of what a parent is! There is so much more to being a parent than some people realize. You have to be able to have the power to love someone unconditionally, no matter what they do in their anger over the situation. You also have to know that one day that person will leave, and the only chance for change you can provide is that moment with you. I find it remarkable that there are people who deal with children verbally and physically " lashing out" at them because that is the only soundboard they have for their pain and anguish. As a foster parent, you have an opportunity to live the last commandment God left us with, " Love one another."
I feel that the program at Foster in Texas is making headway through some of the less than wonderful situations that children come to face in care. They provide a group of people to help those strong enough to desire to be parents to children, if even for a short time. Why not check out their website?  They can answer more questions about becoming part of the solution in the Texas Foster Care System's problems!
