This is the Youtube Video of My interview with KTRH Newsradio 740 in Houston March 31st, 2011. When I was speaking about the fact that there were only 2 foster homes and one residential treatment facility that I had been treated well in, I was referring to Nelson Center in Denton, as being the RTC which was a positive place for me. I was asked to touch briefly on the highlights of my story, but as long as it is, my book is the best thing to read if you are wanting to know in detail the types of things we went through in foster care. Because of Confidentiality, there are names which have been changed and when you read this book, will know what a "SURVIVOR" really is! Just to make sure that there are not any misnomers, I am not currently involved as a complainant in the lawsuit mentioned, and though I do want a change to come about for the State of Texas in the foster care system, and the way they run specifically their group homes, and residential treatment facilities, I am more concerned with getting people involved in being able to see things from the eyes of a child who lived it- and can help as an adult who is now speaking out from that standpoint. There are things which happened in care which I can never shake. They have evolved me into who I am as an adult. I would not want to change the fact that I was granted a life free from being under my birthmother's roof, nor would I want to change that I was subjected to the hurdles thrown at me at such a young age. Pain can cause a person to either linger and cry or grow strong and fight. I am a fighter. Thus, I can say I am a survivor. I also want to add that I have since seen the Nelson Center and the way that they have changed and adapted through the years since I was a resident there. All I have is wonderful things to say about the changes I saw. I am amazed that more placements don't follow their example.
