About Kai

I am a "foster child" who has reached into my adult years. I was raised all over Texas. I am in the process of writing a book of my life and the challenges I have had to face and am still discovering in my adulthood. Being a child who was thrown from placement to placement, (52 times to be exact), it is hard to know who you are, and how you are "supposed" to be. There are things in my life that you couldn't believe have happened, yet they are so terrible, you can't make them up. Knowing other people survived these types of things with me is what keeps me going on in my life. I am available for speaking events and willing to do whatever it takes to make a change for a more improved Texas Foster Care System! Being that I endured almost 10 years of being in the system, as awful as it was, the troubles did not end there. For the past 10 years I have to endure even more heartache and abuse from those childhood memories and being subjected to allegations that because I was a foster child, I couldn't ever be an adequate parent myself. This needs to end! C.P.S. needs to be guided into a newer path, one that doesn't involve re-traumatizing victims after they are raised into adults. Our children deserve a better life than we had, especially when we are more than adequate parents to them. If we can't change the system and make it more humane and enriching for the new generations of children, then what kind of a nation are we? I hope you will read and respond and follow me in trying to help fix a very broken system. Would you put your child in the hands of the Texas Foster Care System?

The Above Youtube Video is Me Speaking at the Caring For Kids event in Dallas May of 2010 for the FIRST placement that EVER HELPED ME! (The Nelson Center) I had never felt more love from so many people than the ones in this room, at this event. There was not a dry eye in the house when I was done speaking here. It explains a little more about my life and how I ended up in foster care, briefly what sorts of things I went through during times in care, and how I found one placement which actually taught me how to start to take control of my life, as a person.
